Insect lure
Vespillo
Black-and-orange beetle silhouette, finished by hand.
The story
Named after Nicrophorus vespillo, the burying beetle — a forest-floor regular and a target our trout fishers swear by. Carved short and wide so it sits clean on the meniscus; the streaked black-on-orange finish catches the light just enough to draw a take without spooking the fish off. Built for slow drifts in clear water.
